I Am the 1 in 3... My Story of Rape and Why I Want to Help V-Day

Two years ago I wrote for "Writings in Pink."  I shared my story of neglect, rape and depression. Today I wanted to share it again because I am helping Proud & Pretty in Pink raise money for a movement that works to end the violence against women and girls.  A movement that can help the little girl I used to be. It's important for us to talk about this.  The more we talk, the more we shed light on a very tragic thing.  1 in 3 women will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.  I am the 1 in 3.  I hope my story helps others come forward and have the strength to rise for justice.

What Proud and Pretty in Pink is doing to raise money for V-Day is amazing!  Often times people don't realize that they know someone that has been through things like this, but there are more of us out there than you think.

Many women keep it in and won't talk about it for a very long time.  I was embarrassed that I let this happen to myself and it took a lot for me to realize that it wasn't my fault and that I should share my story.  I can only hope to help raise money for a movement that helps girls and women like me.  You can read my story here: (A Life I Would Wish on no one.)

Please donate to V-Day.  Take this opportunity that Proud & Pretty in Pink is giving in order to raise money for such a worth while cause.  They will be selling raffle tickets for great items and they are excepting donations which will all go directly to V-Day.  For every $20.00 donated you will get one raffle ticket for an iPad Mini & Case.  They are doing their best, with the help of sponsors, to raise money for the very amazing V-Day.  Read all the details here: Holiday in Pink Update: Donations and Raffles.  So please, help if you can.

Find out more on the PPP website: www.proudandprettyinpink.com and stay tuned for the awesome Holiday in Pink week happening Dec. 2nd-7th.

From me and everyone else involved in Proud & Pretty in Pink, we thank you for any amount you can give.

Holiday in Pink Update: Donations and Raffles

Here's an update on Holiday in Pink 2013!

We are starting to put together our donation pick up schedule for Saturday, December 7th of Holiday in Pink Week!  We will be driving around picking up donations of $20.00 or more.  It is important to us to still be able to interact with our supporters even though we are not having an in person event this year.  If you would rather donate online, you can do so right now on our website: www.proudandprettyinpink.com

In return for your donation you will receive a gift bag and one raffle ticket for every $20.00 donated.  The big raffle item we've been talking about is a 16GB iPAD MINI and CASE!  This is worth over $300.00! The more you donate the better your chances of winning!

We will also have other raffle baskets.  We will be revealing these during Thanksgiving weekend.  Tickets for these will go on sale Monday, Dec. 2nd at 10am until the evening of Saturday, Dec. 7th.  These tickets will be $2.00 each.  You will have your choice of raffles on our website.

Every single penny we raise this year is going directly to V-Day.  Raffle tickets and donations will help us raise money for a movement that works to end violence against women and girls worldwide.  So many of us take for granted that we live lives of non violence.  Many of us live in safe homes with men that love us.  Let us help those who are not as lucky.

If you would rather mail in your donation please contact us by email or phone for the address:
info@proudandprettyinpink.com or 818-6IN-PINK.

If you would like us to come pick up your donation on Saturday, Dec. 7th please contact us with your name and address so we can add you to the pick up list.

We will be drawing tickets and announcing the raffle winners on Saturday Night (Dec. 7th).

We look forward to seeing the faces of so many who have supported our efforts to raise money for V-Day.

Thank you!

Holiday in Pink 2013

It is the 1st of November and Proud & Pretty has some news...  This year's Holiday in Pink Charity Event will be done differently than the last two years.  We will be doing a week long Virtual Holiday in Pink fundraiser in order to continue our mission of raising money for the incredible V-Day!

We sent out this months newsletter which contains info about this event.  Here are those details plus more!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with V-Day here is some information.  V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls.  It was founded by Eve Ensler who is also the creator of the Vagina Monologues.  For the past three years, Chelsie and Chandra have dedicated themselves to raising money through Proud & Pretty in Pink in order to help V-Day further their work.  Learn more about V-Day here: www.vday.org

We have raised around $1,000.00 at each event during the past two years and are hoping to double that this year. We need help from all our Proud & Pretty girls, supporters and followers in order to make this happen.

During the week of December 2nd-7th we will be working to raise this money.

We encourage you to donate, buy raffle tickets for some amazing items we will be raffling off, spread the word, and watch some videos we will posting during this week.  We will have a few surprises and one BIG raffle item!  We will be driving around the Inland Empire and LA on Saturday the 7th to collect cash and check donations, give raffle tickets and hand out gift bags.  All raffle winners will be drawn on Saturday (the 7th) evening and we will post that video of the winners along with the total amount raised from Holiday in Pink 2013!

We will be incorporating many things that we've done at past Holiday in Pink's:

Raffles:
-There will be raffle baskets just like the last two years.  Raffle Tickets for these baskets will be $2.00 and can be purchased in person or on our website.  We will be announcing the baskets and all the contents before the Holiday in Pink Week.  Tickets will go on sale on Dec. 2nd and will be sold until 5pm on Saturday the 7th.

-There will be one BIG item we will be raffling as well.  For each $20.00 donation, you will receive a ticket for this raffle item.  We will announce this item soon.  You wont be disappointed, we promise!

Videos:

A Charitable Inspiration...

End the Violence.
www.VDAY.org has truly inspired me in more ways than one.  Weeks before the recent Proud and Pretty in Pink charity event, I spent at least one hour if not more on this website.  Within that hour my life was changed.  As I researched what V-Day was, their mission, core beliefs, and long-term vision, I geared my attention to V-Girls.  I was instantly glued to the computer screen; I watched the videos that were posted and the thoughts from the girls involved. It all was so amazing, but then I thought of all the other young people and what they were doing.  V-Girls are a network of young girls empowering themselves and others to change the world one girl at a time.  As I continued to read and research this website all I could think of were these four words. EMPOWER. CREATE. CHANGE. EDUCATE. The girls of V-girls were focused on empowering themselves and others to make a difference, creating a world were violence was non-existent, changing the world one girl at a time, and educating themselves and others on the issues we face today.  I tried to image what it would be like if we weren’t so obsessed with the next Jersey Shore episode or who commented on our Facebook status, and more focused on how many women would be or already have been abused throughout the world.  This image was suck in my mind.  I then thought back to one of the 4 core beliefs that V-Day goes by. “Lasting social and cultural change is spread by ORDINARY people doing EXTRAORDINARY things.”  In my opinion, we are all ordinary people, living ordinary lives, but what sets us apart from others is making our actions extraordinary.  I was once told by a very important man in my life, that you can’t just LET things happen, you have to MAKE them happen.  It takes a strong, courageous girl to stand apart from what is popular or accepted at the time.  I encourage young girls out there to want to be educated and to strive to be their best.  Challenge yourself to be different from what is “ideal” in this society, for it can easily change your life in such a positive way.
