Proud and Pretty in Pink is different from other organizations because we not only work to raise self-esteem and create a more positive body image, we educate girls on the very important topic of sexual health. Education breeds confidence and when a girl understands how her body works and what she can do to protect herself, she looks at things with a different perspective. She doesn’t feel uneasy when certain topics are brought up amongst her friends, because she knows the answers. She is not easily influenced by incorrect information because she knows the truth. She can stand up for herself and her body because she understands the importance of taking care of what she has.
Our goal is to help girls find an inner confidence through activities, discussion groups, and demonstrations. We want to provide a community of girls and women that are there to welcome each other, encourage each other, and most importantly understand each other.
Today there are so many negative influences surrounding girls. Most feel overwhelmed with the pressure to please others. They are encouraged by the media to look a certain way, act a certain way, and conform to what is “ideal.” We want to encourage the opposite. We want girls to look the way they want to, we want them to act in a way that makes them happy and will in turn benefit society. We want a new “ideal.” One where the ideal woman is one who is herself, without letting others dictate her actions, her looks, her mind.
Proud and Pretty in Pink wants girls and women to feel united, powerful, and inspired. All girls have questions about themselves and their bodies. They need a place that they feel comfortable asking these important questions. They need to know that they are not alone in their struggles and that others feel and experience similar things. We want girls to come together in confidence and in knowledge that they are important to the world. We are building a community of females to work together towards a common goal of changing the way girls see the world. There’s no telling how many lives a woman can impact when she is simply inspired!
Love,
Chelsie
