Casted in the Vagina Monologues!

The Vagina Monologues, a play written by Eve Ensler, is both a celebration of vaginas and femininity and a movement to end violence against women. V-Day is the non-profit charity that was created to work with the Vagina Monologues with the intent of raising awareness and funds for the benefit of female victims of violence and sexual abuse.  I was introduced to this charity by Proud and Pretty in Pink when they started raising money through their annual event, Holiday in Pink.

V-Day is doing beautiful things for women, which can only be described in one word: inspiring. After hearing, talking, watching, and reading about V-Day, I decided to take it a step further. Mid-November I auditioned for The Vagina Monologues put on by my school, UC Irvine. Today, I found out that I was cast and will be performing in February 2015!

I am currently feeling a whirlwind of emotions but one emotion in particular is overwhelming; I am feeling empowered. Being able to be apart of such an influential organization and help educate and spread the word about violence and sexual abuse against women, the power of femininity, and helping make women’s sexuality not such a taboo topic is an honor.

I encourage you to do anything in your power to help spread the word about V-Day. Share a Facebook link about the topic, donate $10, or come to Holiday in Pink on Saturday December 13th! Any and everything helps!
